Yishun Seletar Day Trip - Yishun Park Hawker Centre & Wheelers Estate

飘向北方kind of day

Finally had the energy to travel to this side of Singapore

Gawd the train ride was loooooong

It did felt like a part of Singapore that I'm totally unfamiliar. Just feels extra homey and residential as I see many uncles and aunties going about their daily lives. It was a weekday, we passed by the markets and they were full of people.

I wanted to get nasi lemak but turns out it's an evening place. Like what?!?! How can nasi lemak not be served in the morning? This may be another SG thing that I can't understand lol.

We decided to go Yishun Park Hawker Centre given its frequent appearance in Food King. And wow I fell in love with this hawker centre. Like, I didn't know I will ever used the term favourite hawker centre.

The hawker centre looked spacious, with some hints of green, and looks bright and new too. And the variety of food was amazing, it's not too many stores but enough interesting choices to get the food u r craving for.

For me, it was an easy choice

I have been craving for Leicha aka Thunder Tea Rice. Immediately went for this although I know it's not like full traditional Leicha, but I guess the fundamentals are there, like the tea, the tofu, some of the veg.

I still love the original Leicha, especially with the caipoh, cabbage and dried shrimps. But this is a delicious salad and wow the tofu is delicious. Like super fragrant. The seaweed and japonica rice made it abit like bibimbap.

Har Jeong Gai from Ah Tan Wings

Wings for side dish and it was so good. So crunchy, the airy crunchy type and the seasoning was so goood. Plus I love how we can order by piece. One wing was enough haha.

Peanut pancake aka Man Jian Kueh from Munchi

Have been missing this so much

Lucky us we got the fresh off the oven I mean pan batch! The filling was zeng up with peanut butter instead of the usual crushed peanuts only. So it's sort of a fresh take too. But the pancake texture was gooood, like not too thick and doughy, the filling to pancake ratio was just nice and there's abit of crunch. Love it!

Matcha Red Bean Pancake from Munchi too

Not as satisfying as peanut but still a hearty flavor with green tea and sweet red bean filling.

The drinks store looks super cool so decided to add on my favourite Kaya butter toast and guess what I had 3 cups of teh c kosong. Yes, it's that good. Toast was meh although it looked very much like Yakun at first glance. But definitely can't beat yakun's slab of butter.

Seee this is the drinks store I was talking about. Love the neon sign.

After loading up with so much food, time to explore around. I've decided to try the SG bikeapp. Wasn't easy to find bikes near the hawker centre but at least the ones we found are working.

We wanted to go Khatib Bongsu Nature Park but just can't seem to find the way to the coast :( Decided to head straight to seletar.

Passed by Yishun Dam with the Johor straits on the other side. Really sucks to see Johor is so near but so far. Decided to take some moments to just think about home.

After crossing the bridge at Yishun Dam, the PCN starts and it was such a scenic ride. I just didn't bother to stop, this PCN was extra wide and it was serene airspace and sleek industrial buildings on one side, Yishun Dam on the other.

The PCN leads to the Seletar Aerospace Park

It's essentially a commercial space with a small park right next to the Seletar Airport

With the green landscape and old tudor houses around, it was truly a laidback lifestyle space for people to hangout.

There are a couple of cafes and restaurants. Wheeler's Estate caught my eye with its wide lawn that almost had this countryside vibe!

Earl grey cheesecake and pistachio cake

Not super impressive, but it was a nice flavor.

Really great place to chill. I forgot how long we were there. The waiters were kind enough to keep refilling our glasses.

We explored around and was able to catch the sunset at the runway.

Runway only has 2 planes I think, it's weird that it's all so quiet, so calm. Bet the runway would be buzzing without COVID.

Just had to enjoy all the pretty bungalows here, felt like a vacation.

Think our day was super well spent. Awesome food, great yumcha sesh, cycling and chilling at a quiet countryside-ish neighborhood.

Can't wait to visit Yishun again.
