Sum Yi Tai @Boon Tat Street

TGIF moments with the NTU bunch.

Sharing this place for CBD folks who would like a TGIF hangout place in the middle of the concrete jungle. I mean it, we're in the middle.

Sum Yi Tai is at Boon Tat street which I always pass by during lunch time. Always thought the place look very classy during day time and turns out it does get more charming at night. You know the neon lights that you see in 90s Hong Kong movies, where some gangster boss will be taking a sip with its allies in a dimly lit bar. Thats how the ground floor looks.

We opted for the rooftop bar which gives you a view of the skyscrapers of CBD. Cant say its the best view but the lights are pretty.

If you want somewhere more cozy, the ground floor would be a good choice.

Most of us had the bar's signature cocktails aka Dragon's Cocktails, all with interesting names. The one in the can is Morning After (SGD 19) with hints of coffee. The one on the left is Golden Dragon (SGD 19) with a lemony taste.

Thats Chinese Mojito (SGD 21) served in an adorable dim sum steamer. With hints of chrysanthemum, good for those who want something mild yet refreshing.

Dai Lou - SGD 28. This reminds me of those glasses that you see in HK gangster movies, where they probably hold XO. There's an extra shot of Bourbon in case there's not enough dragon "kick".

On the left, Date a Gangster (SGD 21) is like a sweet lemony drink with the right hint of alcohol in it. Easy to drink and taste good. The floating date explains the name.

The bar serves Chinese tapas and many of them are your favorite dim sum and Hong Kong sui lap dishes. We decided to just try the Char Siew (SGD 12). Honestly, it's not like wow given the price. It's one dollar per slice if you realize. Maybe we'll stick to getting out char siews from neighborhood food courts.

Nevertheless, it's still a pretty nice bar where you dont have to shout your lungs out to talk to each other. The crew were quite friendly and they speak Cantonese in case you wanna feel that extra HK vibe. Suggest you can have dinner at one of the korean restaurants nearby and go for second round over here.
